Live inland but crave the briney goodness of the ocean? No worries, Atlantic Ocean Harvest offers you just that, delivered to your door, plus a few wonderful recipes.

Apart from a fountain of various vinos at this year’s Gourmet Food & Wine Show in Toronto, I discovered a few vendors that will tickle your taste buds in the best way possible. Take for instance Atlantic Ocean Harvest- a Toronto-based company started by the enterprising Bill Hennessey.

Local fishermen on the East Coast of Canada (Hennessey is from Prince Edward Island himself), catch the freshest lobster, mussels, scallops and shrimp- package them on the same day, set the seafood in wax-paper lined cardboard boxes with cold gel packs and then they get Fed-Ex'ed directly to your door within 24 hours! And best of all, as the Bill says, “A thirsty pad soaked in Atlantic Ocean water is added to live product to simulate the Atlantic Ocean surroundings.” Another bonus- if there's a particular seafood you have a hankering for, ask Bill- he may be able to get some for you ASAP.

We all know that heart-healthy Omega 3 fatty acids (known to help in lowering blood cholesterol, triglyceride levels, and the risk of heart disease) abound in numerous types of fresh seafood, and now, whether you’re in Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, or Calgary- you can get your fresh Atlantic catch and eat it too! Ah, but you’ve heard crustaceous fish can be bad for you, right? Not necessarily. Here’s what registered nutritionist and balanced living expert Rose Reisman has to say about that: “Shellfish include shrimp, clams, mussels, lobster, crab, and scallops. Shellfish can contain higher amounts of cholesterol and more sodium than other fish, but they are still more nutritious than meat or poultry because the fat is unsaturated.” So go ahead- have a lobster tail, a shrimp cocktail or some steamed mussels – moderation is key of course, but enjoy what you eat with gusto.

To help you do just that, Compri Food Service’s Chef Rodney has come up with a few recipes for Atlantic Ocean Harvest seafood that your guests will love ANY time of year (or for any special occasion). Enjoy!
