Eat to the Beat Culinary Event in TorontoAll Female Chef Driven Fundraiser
This year's Eat to the Beat a sensational fundraiser for breast cancer and a culinary utopia for everyone's inner good food-lover!
This year’s 13th “Eat to the Beat” annual fundraising evening full of “culinary delights” for Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada at Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall was a sensory cornucopia. A walk around the hall’s outer lobby netted guests edible treats from over 60 area female chefs – all in support of the organization and just in time to kick off breast cancer awareness month. Donna Dooher of the soon-to-be-launched Mildred’s Temple Kitchen was on hand with her fantastic take on the chorizo-stuffed date wrapped in prosciutto, inspired by the fabulous dish at Chicago’s hot new restaurant Avec (many cited this as one of the evening's favourites). Winlai Wong from Spice Route offered a refreshing Asian minced chicken wrapped in cool lettuce leaves and home economist Emily Richards made the most tender cheese short breads topped with a red pepper jelly that seemed to melt in one’s mouth. Spoiled for ChoiceKyla Eaglesham from Madeleines, Cherry Pie & Ice Cream laid out a panoply of her famous tarts including pumpkin and pecan (the cherry is still tops!), Joanne Lusted from Nella Cucina crafted her decadent Bison Quesadillas for happy eaters and Vanessa Yeung offered guests a peameal bacon stuffed cheddar and chive biscuit with pepper jelly that was comfort food in every bite. Cynthia Beretta of Beretta Organic Farms in conjunction with some of the chefs from Whole Foods Markets crafted a delicious mouthful of organic roast beef slivers topped with a piquant crème fraîche horseradish on Yorkshire pudding bases. From cupcakes, truffles to petite fours, soups to spicy crostini, there was something for literally every taste. And when thirst hit after so many terrific bites, wines and beers from some of Canada’s finest producers of said libations were on offer too. Live music, a silent auction and raffles were held throughout the night along with ladies modelling food-inspired corsets, in case the smorgasbord of fabulous food wasn’t enough. And for those with more generous wallets, this year's event saw the introduction of the "Wine, Dine & Design" auction of designer table settings where the highest bidder wins the well-laid out decor as well as a wonderufl meal prepared in the comfort of their own home by one of the chefs featured that evening. All for a Great CauseAn evening in celebration of women, attendees feel good about knowing that 90% of the proceeds from the event go directly to Willow’s programs supporting those affected by breast cancer. Willow was founded in 1994 to encourage, educate and empower all Canadians affected by breast cancer.
