Fuwarinka aromatic chewing gum gets rid of bad body odor by using active ingredients geraniol and linalool to release scented compounds through the skin.

In the west, the health benefits of chewing gum are thought to include the prevention of tooth decay, reduction of acid reflux and increased concentration. Research conducted in 2007 even suggests that it is helpful to chew gum to lose weight. However, these benefits are essentially side effects of what is primarily a confectionery product.

However, the history of chewing gum in Japan has developed differently than its western counterpart. With a deliberate emphasis on the practical benefits of chewing candy, Japanese gum provides a range of functionality, including the familiar nicotine gum used as an aid to give up smoking, through to chewy Viagra, caffeinated energy gums, and even a chewing gum alternative to the toothbrush.

Fuwarinka Scented Chewing Gum

Perhaps one of the most peculiar of these functional candies is Fuwarinka scented gum. This chewing gum purports to freshen not just the breathe, but also the body, by releasing aromatic oils through the skin for up to six hours after chewing as a means to get rid of unwanted body odor, and as an alternative to traditional aerosol deodorants. Fuwarinka scented gum is available in three flavors, producing three distinctive scents:

  • Fresh Citrus
  • Fruity Rose
  • Rose Menthol

Fuwarinka gum contains added vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid, which is claimed to reduce premature ageing of the skin. The mechanism for releasing scent through the pores of the skin is enabled through the active ingredients geraniol and linalool.

Geraniol and Linalool

A water insoluble alcohol found in many essential oils, geraniol is commonly used as both an insect repellent and as a component in perfumes. With its rose-like odor, it is also used as a flavor enhancer. Linalool is a terpene alcohol that occurs naturally in many plants, and its pleasant floral scent makes it a popular ingredient in soaps and shampoos.

Both geraniol and linalool react to those with perfume allergies, and sufferers of such an allergy should avoid Fuwarinka scented gums, as chewing this gum will cause the ingestion of both geraniol and linalool.

Fuwarinka gum is pleasant tasting, though the gum flavor is not long lasting when compared to western chewing gum brands. The scent produced by chewing Fuwarinka gum is not overpowering as in the case with many aerosol deodorants, and is effective for several hours after chewing the gum.

Fuwarinka scented gum is available to order online through the JBox website at a slightly pricey $1.50 for a packet of nine pieces, with discounts for bulk purchases.
