Some of the tastiest titles the fall has to offer from the bookshelf to your kitchen counter.

Every fall, there are a slew of new cookbooks to tempt every palate. From specialty books dedicated to one style of cooking, like the new “Slow Cooker Comfort Food” by Judith Finlayson, to cooking in a certain vein, such as Vegan Brunch by Isa Chandra Moskowitz, Food Trends brings you highlights from the bookshelf to your kitchen.

Book Title: Grazing- A Healthier Approach to Snacks and Finger Foods (this is the revamped edition of her original)

Author: Canada’s own best-selling author Julie Van Rosendaal- the same woman that brought us “One Smart Cookie.”

Who is it For? Anyone who craves a snack, people who prefer to graze all day long and want to do it without breaking the caloric bank and dinner party throwers who are looking for options to satiate the crowd without resorting to boxed fare or take-out. Better yet, perfect recipes for that pot luck that always leaves you wondering, “What do I bring this time?”

Must Try Recipes: Comfort food like Black Bean and Mushroom Quesadillas, more exotic Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls and Chicken and baked goods like Cranberry Pumpkin Pecan bread.

Best Attributes: Perfect for that flexitarian in your life that wants choice and lots of it. Colour coded chapters laid out by category (such as crackers & crisps, sweet eats and food on a stick), nutritional information included with every recipe.

Book Title: Slow Cooker Comfort Food- 275 Soul-Satisfying Recipes

Author: Toronto-based Judith Finlayson is a well respected food writer and multiple cookbook author.

Who is it For? The busy person who wants comfort in a bowl and on their plate. From cozy meals perfect for a cold night, to elegant dishes meant to be shared at a dinner party- this book covers it all and makes it easy to eat well. Assembling your ingredients and then stepping away from the kitchen (even for the whole day) while enjoying a hearty meal at the end of it all never looked so good.

Must Try Recipes: Smothered Beef Stew, Chile Spiced Short Ribs, and Mushroom “Cassoulet” are hearty, fulfilling and body warming favourites.

Best Attributes: In response to her readers request to provide a colour guide to each recipe, Finlayson offers tips on halving recipes when possible for single people (in orange), dishes suitable for entertaining (in red), and vegan and vegetarian friendly recipes (in green and blue). A comprehensive “understanding your slow cooker” section is also offered to get you acquainted with one of the most user-friendly appliances out there.

Book Title: Vegan Brunch- Homestyle Recipes Worth Waking Up for- from Asparagus Omelets to Pumpkin Pancakes

Author: Isa Chandra Moskowitz- the award winning vegan chef and author of several best selling cookbooks who lives in Portland, Oregon.

Who is it For? Apart from the obvious vegan and vegetarian demographic, Vegan Brunch offers several gluten free recipes for gluten intolerant eaters. But mostly, this book is for anyone who wants a glorious brunch that just happens to be vegan. Period.

Must Try Recipes: Gingerbread waffles with Caramelized Figs, Classic Broccoli Quiche (unsalted cashews replaces eggs) , Peruvian Home Fries and Bakery-Style Berry Muffins.

Best Attributes: Don’t like berries? That’s OK- Moskowitz offers tons of variations and tips on how to get your brunch on without too much fuss. Loads of ideas on how to serve it all up in style- even if you lack the requisite kitchen table.

Book Title: The Entertaining Encyclopedia- Essential Tips and Recipes for Perfect Parties

Author: L.A.- based Denise Vivaldo- caterer to the stars and their glitter-filled events such as the Academy Awards Governor’s Ball.

Who is it For? Anyone who wants to throw a party and not pull their hair out. Themes, location, décor, guests, and recipes make this book a one-stop shop. Procrastinators- your “Do Ahead” list will save your stress levels from hitting that code red come December!
