A few well-chosen, new selections to either share with friends or to bring to the next dinner party.

For those who enjoy a good tipple during these cold, winter months, nothing says “Have a Very Merry” more than a well thought-out bottle or two of some new, fabulous offerings. Food Trends has come up with a list of must-have libations for the holidays- in case a trip to the liquor store is a daunting task or if you’re in the market for a few good ideas.

Sophisticated Suds:

  • Edinburgh, Scotland based award-winning Innis & Gunn’s cask aged beers are a sheer delight (even for non-beer drinkers! Honest!). There are two fabulous offerings that are new to Canada, the first of which is the Limited Edition Innis & Gunn Rum Cask Finished beer- just in time for the cold weather. It’s the world’s first beer to be matured in rum casks, giving the deep red liquid a hint of spicy rum, smoke, and vanilla. The Innis & Gunn Original is oak cask aged and is very food-friendly. Honey-coloured, with a floral, oak and citrus nose, it’s luscious with nuances of toffee. Be careful though- this one goes down really, really easily!

  • Steam Whistle Brewery is bringing its retro-wall (or fridge magnet) mounted bottle cap opener along with a couple of bottles of their award winning Pilsner to the LCBO this year. Back by popular demand, the distinctive green bottle cap opener is a hit amongst anyone looking for a bit of retro-cool in their rec room, kitchen, or patio (or cottage even).
Fine Whisky:

  • Té Bheag (pronounced chey vek) means “wee dram” in colloquial Gaelic- but there’s nothing wee or dainty about this serious whisky. Made off the North West coast of Scotland, this whisky forms part of the PraBAN Gaelic collection and proudly so. It’s a slightly peated, smooth whisky that’s high on the list of many connoisseurs. Aged between 5-11 years, with just a touch of sherry from selected casks, this award-winning whisky with its high malt content is a perfect way to end a dinner party.

  • Based on William Grant’s family recipe dating back to 1898, the Grant Whisky line boasts a selection that many have lauded, including Scotch whisky expert Jim Murray who calls Grant’s: “A stunner of a whisky, one of the most complex blends the whisky industry will ever produce.” Click here to read more about Grant’s and to pick up a recipe idea or two.
And for those looking for a cocktail suggestion from mixologist extraordinaire Kevin Brauch, click here to create your own version of Kevin’s signature creation- The Stag’s Head Cocktail.
