Over 60 years of restaurant success demonstrates a rare longevity in a challenging industry. Key ingredients are excellence in food, service, location and ambiance.

According to prestigious Zagat ratings, Shadowbrook's score improves each year. Owner Ted Burke says, “We have to maintain the classic elements of fine dining, yet still be able to adapt to the times. The extra factor we provide is attention to detail.”

Recent Zagat Review

On April of 2009, a satisfied customer wrote, “An absolute ‘gem’ of a restaurant. The unique setting, the romantic ambiance, the culinary delights, the friendly and professional staff....if these are qualities you look for in a restaurant, you will find them, and more, at Shadowbrook. We travel nearly 100 miles to dine here, and it's worth every mile.”-HaroldB.

The Setting

Customers ride down past lush, landscaped gardens to the restaurant in a funicular, also known to locals as a cable car. This is an opening introduction to the ambiance of Shadowbrook. By the time diners reach the bottom of the hill, they are inspired to begin an unequalled dining experience at this romantic restaurant.

Romantic Atmosphere

The intimate Garden Room has a creekside view and is most often suggested to prospective bridegrooms for their proposal dinners.

Waiters eagerly assist with proposal surprises during dessert and not surprisingly, numerous weddings are held here each year.

Fine Dining Restaurant

Chef Ross McKee’s passion for cooking came while working at his family’s Pine Inn restaurant in Carmel. “Here on the Central Coast we have practically everything the world has to offer,” he says.

A recent customer said that her meal was every bit as exceptional as those she’d experienced on her travels in France and Italy.

Menus change twice a year; the spring menu is now underway.

Not Just for Special Occasions

Happy Hours feature “Two-Fer-One" Pizzas and Appetizers

Community Tuesdays from November – February

Wine programs featuring local Santa Cruz Mountain wines, including Winemaker Wednesdays, are held during the winter. Consult the website for these and other special offerings.

Top Notch Service

A professional wait staff takes customer service to a new level. While serving a celebrating couple, one waiter asked another to watch his station, ran for his camera to photograph the occasion and mailed the photo to the appreciative couple.

Attention by Local Owners

Ted Burke and Bob Munsey, who have co- owned the restaurant since 1978, talk on the phone daily to discuss operations of their two restaurants, Shadowbrook and Crow’s Nest. Ted says, “Some days, a number of things have to be put right and on other days everything goes smoothly.”
