Eschewing trendy flash in the pans for enduring tradition and quality is the goal of Swiss-Master Chocolatier. Decadent truffles just in time for the holidays.

If you want to really spoil someone with the very best this holiday season, look no further than Toronto’s own Swiss-Master Chocolatier. A discerning and chocolate-loving Ingrid Läderach Steven offers a host of chocolate delights; she personally selected four top-shelf lines to import here from her native Switzerland. And let us be clear, her truffles and pralinés are most certainly NOT export quality chocolates, which Läderach Steven says are likely to be inferior to the quality product sold and consumed in the country of origin.

Good Enough to Eat!

“The chocolates I carry are chocolates I would eat myself,” says Ingrid, who grew up in Lucerne and whose family still runs a chocolate operation in Switzerland called Confiseur Läderach AG. Hers is a gem of a shop that offers a feast for the eyes along with the taste buds. She carries over 70 types of delightful truffles from a late harvest champagne truffles (grape and all), to premium liqueur-filled “boules,” along with her very favourite, the decidedly sophisticated Griotte (a whole cherry- including the pit, soaked in kirsch and enrobed in chocolate). A loyal favourite if you’re in the mood to try a classic is called "The Dome” and contains a butter cream ganache with a crackled crème brulee top. A textural explosion of goodness in your mouth!

Made with fresh Swiss cream which Ingrid believes helps give her selection what she calls a “distinctive, to live for taste,” Swiss-Master Chocolatier also carries premium chocolate bars smiling bears, Santas, and mice. These seasonal goodies are all hand painted and crafted in Switzerland. She also stocks the distinctive Griotte- a whole cherry soaked in kirsch and dipped in chocolate.

600 Year Old Recipe- the Basler Leckerli Cookie

If any of you have ever been to Switzerland and were lucky enough to try a national edible treasure called a BASLER LECKERLI cookie that contains wonderful spice and citrus hints, look no further, because Ingrid carries them at her shop! These are made by Läckerli-Huus and are based on a 600 year-old recipe. Psst- a secret tip from Ingrid to you: she says she likes to melt one or two into her gravy to give it just the right zip without being sweet. The cookie’s aromatic notes apparently lend her gravies that “wow! What did you do your gravy” mystique. Be sure to strain out the cookies once their flavourful job is done!

VIPs, Celebs and People with Good Taste

The little chocolate-filled store has drawn a wide variety of celebrities, from pop royalty such as Prince to the blue-blood kind of Queen Elizabeth. All of her treats are beautifully packaged and priced so that you don’t have to be a rock star to shop at Swiss-Master Chocolatier. Don’t forget to ask for her prettily packaged hot chocolate mix (picture below) with quality cocoa powder, chocolate chunks and marshmallows all in a handy cone for a night in with those you love! You’ll be sure to have only the sweetest sugar plum fairies dancing in your head after such an inspired cup of hot chocolate!
